Invite your friends

Invite someone for your city from your dashboard. On a phone this opens your own share menu; on a computer you choose WhatsApp, e-mail or "copy link". The message is ready to send and names your city.
Right after confirming your account you can invite someone straight away, if you like. Skipping is just as easy.
Anyone can share a place from the Cities page. Your friend lands on that page with the place already looked up, in their own language.
Invitations are anonymous: the link does not say who sent it, and nobody keeps a count of who invited whom. There are no rewards or rankings for inviting.
Shared links now show a clear preview with a title, a short text and an image. A link to a city says how many people there have signed up, from 10 people on.
We say it openly now: FriendShaping has no points, likes, badges, streaks or rankings, and never will just to keep you clicking. About us explains why, with the research behind it, and what we are about instead: bringing people together to play sport, share a hobby, find a buddy or simply talk.
FriendShaping is easier to find in search engines: every page now has a clear title and a short description.
Small fixes: the "How the platform works" page now says correctly where FriendShaping runs (OVHcloud, Limburg, Germany), and an address that does not exist now shows a proper "page not found".

Your privacy & our e-mails

Visiting FriendShaping shares nothing with other companies. Our fonts and every other file come from our own server, so your IP address is not passed on to Google or anyone else.
Our e-mails work the same way: they load nothing from elsewhere and contain no tracking pixels or tracking links. We do not know whether or when you open them.
A new look for our e-mails (confirming your account, choosing a new password and deleting your account): one calm layout with a clear button, a greeting with your first name, and how long a link stays valid.
E-mails always arrive in the language of your account, also when you ask for a new password from a page in the other language.
When you delete your account, your personal data is removed straight away, not kept for two years. Copies in our backups are overwritten within 30 days. The Privacy Policy now says so.
The Privacy Policy now names where FriendShaping runs: a server of OVHcloud in a data centre in Limburg, Germany, inside the EU.
The Cookie Policy lists exactly the three cookies we use: staying signed in, protecting forms, and remembering the language you chose. No tracking or advertising cookies.
The sign-in page loads no outside scripts any more; if something is missing, you see it after pressing Sign in. Under the hood the site moved to a newer technical foundation that receives security updates until 2028.

Cities & signing up

New Cities page: see which cities are closest to launching. The top 20 shows the places where most people have signed up, and every city gets the same progress bar towards 100 people.
Look up your own place on the Cities page to see how close your city is. For small places we only show "fewer than 10", so nobody can be recognised.
The home page now shows the five cities with the most sign-ups.
The 20 Dutch student cities are ready to launch. Villages and towns within 15 km count towards the nearest of them.
Your dashboard shows your city: how far it is, how you can help it along, and a message when it goes live.
Signing up now asks for your place of residence, so your sign-up counts for your own city. FriendShaping is for people aged 18 and over.
No user name any more: you sign in with your e-mail address. Only your first name is required.
My profile shows your place of residence and lets you change it when you move. Members who joined before their city launched get a Discoverer badge.
Didn't get the confirmation e-mail? Have it sent again from the "check your mail" page.
E-mails reach you in your own language and tell you where to send questions.
After five wrong passwords your account is locked for 15 minutes, to keep it safe.
You can delete your account yourself in My profile. Your data is removed straight away and you get a confirmation e-mail.
Small fixes: Den Haag can now be found under its Dutch name, and you can type your date of birth as 15-03-1995.

Getting ready for the first members

Your account now remembers when you registered and when you confirmed your e-mail address, and the place you lived in at that moment. This is how we will recognise the early members who help launch their city.
Coming next: the registration form will ask for your place of residence and confirm that you are 18 or older.

New look & English and Dutch

New look across the whole site: calm, spacious pages with condensed headings, square line-drawn cards, sage green as the single action colour and a consistent set of icons.
Every page rebuilt in the new style, from the public pages to sign-in, registration and your own member pages.
Simpler header: Home, Activities, Open Bench, Buddies and About us. Once signed in, one "My dashboard" button takes you to your own pages.
FriendShaping is now available in English and Dutch. Switch with the EN / NL toggle in the header; the language is part of the web address (/nl/…), so links you share open in the same language.
Without a choice, the site follows your browser language and remembers what you picked last time.
Preferred language: choose it when you register and change it in My profile. After signing in, the site opens in your language.
Messages on forms and at sign-in appear in the language you chose.
Legal pages are still in English only; in Dutch they show a short notice saying so.
Your dashboard has a new header with today's date and a sign-out button.

Password reset & clearer sign-up

Forgot your password? Request a reset link by e-mail and choose a new one. For your privacy, the site never reveals whether an e-mail address has an account.
After registering you see a clear "check your e-mail" page, and confirming your address tells you right away whether it worked.
Change your password on its own page, reachable through a new tile on your dashboard.
If your password doesn't meet the requirements, the registration form now explains why in a clear message.
The sign-in page has a link back to the home page, and the logo takes you home too.
Dates are entered in the familiar day/month/year format.
Clearer success, warning and error messages throughout the site.
